Three pre-conference tours are planned for Thursday, May 27, 2010. Seating is limited on all tours. All pre-conference tours will depart from and return to the Holiday Inn-CoCo Key Water Resort Hotel.
Tour Summary
Tour 1 – “Pioneers and a President”
8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
This is a full-day bus tour of historic Independence. Attendees will meet “Harry S. Truman,” drive through his neighborhood, and visit the Truman Presidential Library and Museum. Attendees will then have lunch and a tour of the pre-civil war, Bingham-Waggoner Estate, and visit to the National Frontier Trails Museum. The tour will conclude with a one-hour wagon tour hearing the tales of early Missouri settlers and responses from the Saints. Tour registration includes bus and wagon transportation, lunch, all entrance and guide fees. Tour is limited to one bus.

Tour 2 – “Divergent Paths in Zion”
9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
The second tour is a five-hour tour of Independence lead by Historian Steven Shields, author of Divergent Paths of the Restoration. Independence is the “center place” of Zion for seventeen different groups in the Latter Day Saint movement. The tour introduces nine important “divergent paths” sites, including the headquarters of nine Latter Day Saint denominations, with site papers and tours o some of their headquarter buildings. Tour registration includes bus transportation, tour fees, and box lunch. Tour is limited to one bus. Attendees of this tour may also register for tour 3 (afternoon session).

Tour 3 – “Harry S. Truman’s Neighborhood: A Walking Tour”
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
repeated at 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
The third tour is an hour and a half walking tour of Harry S. Truman’s neighborhood. The tour is lead by historian Jon Taylor, the author of A President, A Church and Trails West. He shares his wealth of knowledge on Independence, President Truman, and Mormon history. This is a walking tour and participants are urged to wear urged to wear comfortable shoes. Attendees of the morning session may remain in Independence having lunch and shopping at the historic Independence Square and returning later to the hotel. Tour registration includes bus transportation to and from hotel and guide fee. Each session is limited to only 15 participants.
